2010 Summer Intensive Program––Sogo Chum

The sogo chum is a traditional folk dance using the sogo (small hand–held drum). A typical instrument in Korean farmer's music, the small size of this drum allows the player to do intricate movements and adds a lot of merriment to the festivities.

The sogo chum involves many light steps and circular motions––skipping, turning, swinging the drum and moving the hands around the drum, while keeping up the beat. This dance is fun, exciting and heavy in Korean folk flavor.

Time: Monday to Friday, 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm
