Professional Training Program
Supported by the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Korean Dance Studies Society of Canada is the only school in Canada that offers professional training in an East Asian dance style. Under the direction and tutelage of Mi Young Kim, the program prepares students in a career in researching, performing and teaching dance. As the dancers progress, the level of difficulty increases – more complex choreography is incorporated into performance pieces. Students in the past have moved on to teach Korean dance within and outside of KDSSC, performed as independent artists as well as become part of the Mi Young Kim Dance Company.
Students will be trained in traditional drum and dance, including court dance, Buddhist and Shaman ritual dances, mask dance and farmers' dance. They will also work in contemporary styles and fusion dance. There are optional workshops in various dance styles throughout the year.
Faculty: Mi Young Kim (Head Instructor and Artistic Director), Gui Ok Jang (Guest Instructor), Heung Sup So (Guest Instructor)
