The Korean Dance Studies Society of Canada works with many talented dancers. Their biographies are available below.

Christine Cho

Graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Sc. (Human Biology) & Doctor of Dental Surgery)

Cho has a background in jazz dance, which she studied at the Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance for two years. She joined the KDSSC in 2007 and has danced with the Mi Young Kim Dance Company since 2008. Christine’s performances include participating in Soo Ryu Festivals 2008 and at the Dance Week festival at the Harbourfront Centre 2009.

GuiRhan Choi

Graduate of Ehwa Woman’s University (Dance Department) and Seoul Art High School

Choi has been a professional dancer with the Mi Young Kim Company for a number of years performing at the SooRyu Dance Festival and Dance Weekend to name a few.

HyeRan Jung

Graduate of Sacred Heart Women’s University

Chung’s performances with the Mi Young Kim Dance Company include: SooRyu Dance Festivals (2001–2008); Dance Weekend (2003–2009); and CanAsian Dance Festival (2003).

Hee Jung Kim

Student at the Ontario College of Arts and Design (working towards BFA in Drawing and Painting)

Kim began studying with Mi Young Kim in 2007. The International Day celebration in her final high school year inspired her to explore Korea’s dance heritage. Her “Kyobangmu” and “Sword Dance” was successfully received by audiences. Since then, she has joined the Mi Young Kim Dance Company. Currently, Kim is a visual arts major at the Ontario College of Arts and Design. She values Korean dance as an important source of inspiration for her work.

HeeRin Kim

Graduate of SoongWei University (Dance department)

Kim has been a professional dancer with the Mi Young Kim Company for a number of years and is an instructor for children’s classes at the KDSSC. She was also awarded the Kiwanis Dance Festival Best Award in 2002.

Yun Seoung Lee

Studying at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts

Lee recently joined the Mi Young Kim Dance Company and has aspirations to become a professor in traditional Korean dance. Her background includes Korean dance training from Korea, ballet at the Bayview School of Ballet, and gymnastics.

Jung Hee Min

Graduate of Soodo Woman’s University (Dance Department)

Jung has been a professional dancer with the Mi Young Kim Company since 2005 for the SooRyu Dance Festival. Her previous experience also includes being a dance instructor at Kimpo SunMyoung Woman’s Jr. High School and DaeDong Woman’s Jr. High School in Korea.

Jia Shin

Graduate of Queen’s University, Kingston (M.Sc.(Eng.), Civil Engineering)

Shin has a background in ballet, studying with Bella Kovarsky at the Bayview School of Ballet for 13 years. She joined the KDSSC in 2005 and has danced with the Mi Young Kim Dance Company since 2006. Shin’s performances include participating in Soo Ryu Festivals 2006, 2007, and 2008 and at festivals at Harbourfront Centre and the Toronto Public Library.

Cindy Yip

Graduate of York University (BA in Fine Arts Cultural Studies & MA in Communication and Culture)

Yip started dancing in Hong Kong at the age of 6. She graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy with excellence in 2000 and studied at the Central University of Ethnicity in Beijing, China. Yip became acquainted with Korean dance as part of Chinese folk culture through one of Mi Young Kim’s students. She joined the Mi Young Kim Dance Company in 2005 and has won numerous awards at the Kiwanis Dance Festival, including the Best of Folkloric Dance in 2002.
