General Classes

General classes are geared towards those interested in learning Korean dance. Basic steps are taught in this program, such as breathing and fundamental movements with the body, hand and feet.

Basic beats and dances taught within general classes include: kootkori beat, 4–beat and basic beats, and arirang dance.

The Silver Academy of Soo Ryu is geared towards seniors (age 65+). Classes are open to both male and female. Teaching material includes existing repertoire such as arirang and sung joo puri, aerobics and other fun exercises that incorporate Korean basic steps, plus drum classes with jianggo and buk.

Cost is $10 per class. Classes are open to those under the age of 65 at an additional charge.

NEW! Beginer's Korean Dance Class

This 10–class, material–focused program is designed for beginners who would like get to a firm foundation in Korean basic dance movements.

Taught through out Korea with minor variations, the "Korean Basic Steps" are actually two long technical exercises that incorporates all the steps typically used in Korean court and folk dances. Similar to barre exercises in ballet, the Korean Basic Steps allow the students to understand the characteristics of Korean dance and provide the technique necessary to learn performance pieces.

Accomplished individuals from this class may join our regular programs with more experienced students in the fall semester.

Time: Every Friday, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Date: June 4 to August 6, 2010.
